My favorite albums of 2014, #10
Jucifer's take on DC hardcore, mixed with '90s Scandinavian black metal. Intentionally underproduced, it sounds like it was recorded in a cardboard box, just a blur of mangled riffs, sore-throat yelps, and stuttering drums. Killer if you just want a blast of pure ugliness. Levrikon
Traditional folk music and field recordings meld into fascinating long-form sound collages on the new LP from Shovel Dance Collective. Bandcamp New & Notable Dec 6, 2022
New to Jucifer but I LOVE this, the sheer bravery to commit with such intensity and integrity outside of what I guess is their expected aesthetic sound. I brought all the releases from Jucifer and am in awe of the commitment and ethics behind the releases - I think the document released alongside District of Dystopia remind me of the staggering relevance of d.i.y done well!!!
